Gibbston concert one for the ages

Some music icons are prepping to visit our great southern land next year.

Aussie rock royalty Cold Chisel, including frontman Jimmy Barnes, fellow Australians Icehouse, Kiwi singer-songwriter Bic Runga and
1990s-founded alt rockers Everclear have been announced to perform at the Gibbston Summer Concert Tour on January 18 — the first stop on next year’s tour.

It’ll be the 15th anniversary of the Summer Concert Tour series, coinciding with Cold Chisel’s 50th anniversary tour, ‘The Big Five-0’, and Icehouse’s 45th anniversary.

Known for bangers like Cheap Wine, Khe San and When the War is Over, Cold Chisel’s pianist and chief songwriter Don Walker says the band will be going ‘‘all out’’ in Queenstown.

‘‘We’ll be doing a set which reaches back across our whole song catalogue, which should all make The Big Five-0 a tour to remember.’’

Guitarist and singer Ian Moss says there is a ‘‘minimum’’ of 15 songs their fans demands to hear.

‘‘This time we’ll be playing all of them, plus we’ll be throwing in lots of musical surprises.’’

Presale tickets for One NZ customers, Greenstone Concert Club members and Queenstown and Wānaka residents went on sale yesterday — in Queenstown, they’re available from Gibbston Valley Winery and Queenstown i-Site, and from the Wānaka i-Site.

General public tickets go on sale at noon on Monday. Tickets start from $159 plus booking fees.
