Whakatipu Ski Club members will be trading Queenstown’s slopes for its streets next month.

For three weeks, starting from July 8, club members — used to driving in snow and on ice — are volunteering for Meals on Wheels, delivering meals throughout the Basin during the diciest weeks on Queenstown roads.

Club spokeswoman Sharla Franklin says they’ve been volunteering for the organisation for over a decade, because ‘‘it’s all about giving back to the community’’.

Over the three weeks, about 270 meals will be delivered by club members to Meals on Wheels recipients across Arrowtown and Queenstown.

Franklin says they’ll have up to 20 drivers on the road, including four past members, because they enjoy volunteering.

‘‘It’s lovely as you get to know the recipients of the meals,’’ she says.

The initiative’s part of the ski club’s volunteer scheme, requiring members to complete some volunteering hours as a condition of
membership.
