Three Queenstown venues, and three hospo pros, have been named as finalists in the Hospitality New Zealand (HNZ) Awards 2024.

In the business awards, Fernhill’s Kamana Lakehouse and Queenstown’s Sofitel Queenstown Hotel & Spa are both in the running for ‘best hotel’ — they’re up against Fable Auckland, Novotel New Plymouth Taranaki and The Hotel Britomart, in Auckland.

Future Hospitality Group’s Little Blackwood, at Steamer Wharf, is a finalist in the ‘best bar’ category.

It’s up against Bad Habits (Paihia), Fantail & Turtle (Auckland), Heyday Beer Co (Wellington), Kaiser Brew Garden (Christchurch) and Market St (Napier).

Additionally, three Queenstown hospo professionals have been announced as finalists for the HNZ People Awards 2024.

Kamana Lakehouse’s Jonathan Williams and Future Hospitality’s Matt Tobin are both finalists in ‘chef of the year’, alongside Christopher Walker (EVT Hotels & Resorts), Dean Thompson (Schnappa Rock, Tutukaka) and Henry Onesemo (TALA Group Ltd), while Future Hospitality’s Bert Haines is a finalist in ‘hospitality industry leader of the year’.

Others in the running for that award are Dee Bond (Palms on George Hospitality, Waikato), Greg Miller (Valley D’Vine restaurant, Napier), Kat Dippie (Fife Lane Kitchen & Bar, Tauranga) and Mason Lattimore (Kaiser Brew Garden, Christchurch).

The People Awards will be announced in Christchurch on July 30, and the Business Awards the following night.
