Calling all thespians.
Remarkable Theatre’s looking for 10 actors to star in its coming season of A Relatively Uneventful Evening, being staged at Arrowtown’s Athenaeum Hall from September 5 to 14.
Written by George Arthur, the play tells the story of a group of highly-dysfunctional friends invited to a dinner party one evening to celebrate the publication of Eleanor’s first book.
Various disagreements ensue, then one of the guests stumbles into the room and is quickly pronounced dead.
Efforts to hide the body are thwarted by visits from a nosey neighbour, a poorly timed mechanic, and the arrival of their final guests.
Chaos and panic drive the hilarious evening, with twists and turns throughout what is, by all accounts, a relatively uneventful night.
Remarkable Theatre’s enlisted stage and screen actor and director Jay Simon, of Wānaka, to direct their adaptation — think Abigail’s
Party meets Weekend at Bernies.
Auditions are being held from 9.30am tomorrow at 29 Isle St — because the play’s an ensemble piece, auditions will be held in a group from 10am till 12.30pm, with callbacks from 2pm to 5pm.
The cast will be confirmed within a week.

Meantime, two founding members of Remarkable Theatre are now life members.
Tanya Surrey and Melanie Grindell were last week honoured by the committee for their tireless contributions since 2009.
Surrey, a local lawyer, has been involved in the amateur theatre company since its inception, even writing the rules as she prepared the society’s constitution.
A member of the committee for over a decade, she’s also been an actor, a director — including directing a play for every Pint-Sized Plays,
including three winners — worked in production, marketing and administration, has judged Pint-Sized scripts and has ensured audiences stay hydrated courtesy of the bar applications she’s submitted.
Grindell, the current vice-president, has held a variety of roles within the committee, including secretary, treasurer and, from 2013-’15, president.
She’s been a production manager and stage manager, a Pint-Sized director and playwright, an actor and is heavily involved in marketing shows, while also finding time to be the society’s part-time historian.
