An event at Queenstown’s Bob’s Cove this Sunday afternoon features music, hangi food and expert speakers all designed to highlight the history and beauty of the area.
Running from noon till 4pm, ‘Protect Punatapu’ — Punatapu is the Māori name for Bobs’ Cove — is being put on by Nature’s Symphony in collaboration with the Bob’s Cove Punatapu Community Trust.
It’s a fundraiser, too, for the trust’s coming Environment Court battle against plans for a luxury lodge development in the area.
And it’s also raising funds for the reforestation efforts of the Glenorchy Community Native Tree Nursery.
Nature’s Symphony, which has popped up in other locations, and creates a soundscape to deepen one’s experience of a place, includes local busking pianist, composer and music therapist Luke Gajdus and other musicians.
Speakers include local kaumātua Darren Rewi and Monique Kelly, co- founder of Otago-based charitable trust Wao, which helps communities accelerate towards a regenerative future.
With limited carparking, a free shuttle bus leaves Queenstown’s Athol St bus park at 11.40am, and also returns to town.
Earlybird tickets from $48 — probably on sale till Saturday, after which they’re $60 — are for sale via Humanitix; children under 16 are free.
